Junior youth are also encouraged to participate in fun recreational activities and arts!
In each group, there is the need for an older person who, as a true friend to the junior youth, can assist them in developing their noble capacities. Those who perform this function are known as "animators". With the encouragement of the animator, the members of the group remain hopeful and convinced that they can discern between positive and negative influences on their life and protect themselves against the forces that are harmful in the society around them. They are also empowered to contribute to its betterment.
The curriculum of the junior youth program consists of stories containing meaningful exercises, activities, and community projects within a participatory environment that help junior youth develop their critical thinking and their ability to express their ideas.
Junior youth read and discuss stories that help them think about the importance of values. The content of the stories as well as the environment of encouragement is intended to help junior youth develop their capacity to make positive decisions.
In addition to what they study, junior youth also receive practical support and encouragement by their youth tutors so that they can excel in their academic studies. Homework help and after school tutoring is a natural extension of the program.
A core tenet of the program is helping junior youth develop their talents and abilities by helping the community. Junior youth often consult, plan and execute community projects help them develop an understanding of community issues and become agents of change.
